Το τσουνάμι έφθασε στην Ιαπωνία, πιθανά κύματα ύψους τριών μέτρων

Ένα τσουνάμι έφθασε στην Ιαπωνία αργά απόψε όπου η εθνική μετεωρολογική υπηρεσία προειδοποίησε για τον κίνδυνο να υπάρξουν κύματα ύψους τριών μέτρων, μετά την έκρηξη την Παρασκευή ηφαιστείου στο αρχιπέλαγος των Τόνγκα.

Η υπηρεσία διευκρίνισε ότι τσουνάμι 1,2 μέτρου έφθασε στο νότιο νησί Αμάμι Οσίμα γύρω στις 23.55 τοπική ώρα (16.55 ώρα Ελλάδας) Σαββάτου, προτού παρατηρηθούν μικρότερα κύματα σε άλλες περιοχές κατά μήκος της ακτής στο Ειρηνικό της Ιαπωνίας.

Οι ανατολικές ακτές του βορειότερου νησιού της Ιαπωνίας, Χοκάιντο, καθώς και οι περιφέρειες Κότσι και Ουακαγιάμα (νοτιοδυτικά) κατέγραψαν επίσης ένα κύμα ύψους 0,9 μέτρου μετά τα μεσάνυχτα, διευκρίνισε η μετεωρολογική υπηρεσία.

Το εθνικό δημόσιο τηλεοπτικό δίκτυο NHK διαμόρφωσε το πρόγραμμά του έχοντας απευθείας συνδέσεις από τις συγκεκριμένες πόλεις-λιμάνια,  καλώντας τους κατοίκους να απομακρυνθούν από τις εστίες τους και να κατευθυνθούν σε περιοχές με αρκετό υψόμετρο, χωρίς να υπάρχει τίποτε ασυνήθιστο στις εικόνες που μετέδωσε.

 Σε τηλεοπτική ενημέρωση των δημοσιογράφων γύρω στα μεσάνυχτα, η μετεωρολογική υπηρεσία της Ιαπωνίας ανακοίνωσε ότι εντόπισε μια αλλαγή στην  παλίρροια, η οποία ήταν πιο ψηλή κατά σχεδόν ένα μέτρο μετά τις 23.00 τοπική ώρα, με αποτέλεσμα να εκδοθεί προειδοποίηση για τσουνάμι. "Καλούμε τους κατοίκους να δράσουν", δήλωσε ένας αξιωματούχος κατά την ενημέρωση αυτή.
