Παραιτείται ο προπονητής της Αυστρίας Φράνκο Φόντα

Η επιστροφή σε τελική φάση Παγκοσμίου Κυπέλλου για πρώτη φορά μετά το 1998 δεν υλοποιήθηκε για την εθνική ομάδα της Αυστρίας, που έχασε 2-1 από την Ουαλία στα playoffs και... πήγε σπίτι της.

Το αποτέλεσμα αυτό έφερε την απόφαση του Φράνκο Φόντα να παραιτηθεί από την τεχνική ηγεσία της ομάδας, μετά και το φιλικό ματς με την Σκωτία την Τρίτη (29/03).

Ο Γερμανός προπονητής δήλωσε πως «σκέφτηκα πολλά αυτές τις μέρες, πήρα τελικά την απόφασή μου χθες. Υπήρχε η φήμη ότι ενδέχεται να ανανεώσω το συμβόλαιό μου αλλά πλέον δεν έχει σημασία.

Ήταν μεγάλη τιμή να δουλέψω εδώ, ο διάδοχός μου μπορεί να ανυπομονεί για να αναλάβει μία ομάδα με τρομερό χαρακτήρα και με μεγάλη προοπτική».

Ο 55χρονος προπονητής είχε αναλάβει τους Αυστριακούς τον Ιανουάριο του 2018 και τους οδήγησε στα νοκ άουτ του Euro του προηγούμενου καλοκαιριού.
