Πρόκριση με ανατροπή η Σάκκαρη!

Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη ξεκίνησε απόψε (16/8) από τον 2ο γύρο του τουρνουά του Σινσινάτι, καθώς έχει bye στον 1ο γύρο, και κατάφερε, με ανατροπή, να ξεπεράσει το εμπόδιο της Σοράνα Κιρστέα και να προκριθεί στις «16». Η 28χρονη Ελληνίδα τενίστρια επέστρεψε στις νίκες, μετά από τον πρόωρο αποκλεισμό της από το Μόντρεαλ την περασμένη εβδομάδα, επικρατώντας με 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 μετά από 2 ώρες και 19 λεπτά. 

Επόμενη αντίπαλος της Μαρίας Σάκκαρη στις ΗΠΑ θα είναι είτε η Πέτρα Μάρτιτς είτε η Καρολίνα Μούχοβα. 

Η Ρουμάνα τενίστρια, Σοράνα Κιρστέα, ήταν ανώτερη στο πρώτο σετ απέναντι στη Σάκκαρ, πήρε τα πρώτα 4 games, για να το κατακτήσει με 6-2. Στο 2ο σετ η Σάκκαρη προηγήθηκε με 4-0, αλλά η Κιρστέα μείωσε σε 4-3. Με νέο break, όμως η Σάκκαρη έκανε το 5-3 και εν συνεχεία πήρε το σετ με 6-3 για το 1-1. Στο 3ο σετ, η Σάκκαρη έδωσε μάχη, αλλά στο 11ο game κατάφερε να βρει το break παίρνοντας προβάδισμα με 6-5, για να κλείσει το ματς λίγο αργότερα με 7-5.
