Φιλιππίνες: Σεισμός 7,1 βαθμών

Σεισμική δόνηση μεγέθους 7,1 βαθμών σημειώθηκε πριν από λίγη ώρα στο νότιο τμήμα των Φιλιππίνων, όπως ανακοίνωσε το Ινστιτούτο Ηφαιστειολογίας και Σεισμολογίας της χώρας. Το επίκεντρο εντοπίζεται στη θαλάσσια περιοχή ανατολικά της νήσου Σαρανγκάνι και το εστιακό βάθος υπολογίζεται σε 76 χιλιόμετρα.

Το αμερικανικό ινστιτούτο γεωλογικών μελετών (USGS) εκτίμησε πως ο σεισμός ήταν μεγέθους 6,7 βαθμών, ενώ το Ευρωμεσογειακό Σεισμολογικό Κέντρο (EMSC) κάνει λόγο για σεισμό 6,8 βαθμών.

Μέχρι στιγμής, δεν υπάρχουν αναφορές για θύματα ή σημαντικές υλικές ζημιές.

Οι Φιλιππίνες βρίσκονται στον λεγόμενο «δακτύλιο της φωτιάς» του Ειρηνικού Ωκεανού, όπου οι κινήσεις των τεκτονικών πλακών προκαλούν συχνά σεισμούς και έντονη ηφαιστειακή δραστηριότητα.
