Πικρός αποκλεισμός για τον Γκιώνη

 

Το άσχημο ξεκίνημά του «πλήρωσε» ακριβά ο Παναγιώτης Γκιώνης, γνωρίζοντας την ήττα με 4-2 σετ από τον Αμερικανό Κανάκ Τζα (11-5, 11-4,11-7, 7-11, 8-11, 11-8), με αποτέλεσμα να μείνει εκτός από τους «16» του πινγκ πονγκ στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Παρισιού.

Ο 44χρονος αθλητής δεν κατάφερε να μπει καλά στο παιχνίδι, άργησε να βρει τον ρυθμό του, με αποτέλεσμα να χάσει εύκολα τα δύο πρώτα σετ, με 11-5 και με 11-4 αντίστοιχα.

Έχασε και το τρίτο, με τον Γκιώνη να κάνει αντεπίθεσή του στη συνέχεια, παίρνοντας εκείνος τα δύο επόμενα σετ και μειώνοντας σε 3-2, ενώ στο έκτο σετ προηγήθηκε με 7-6. Δεν άντεξε ωστόσο, με αποτέλεσμα να ηττηθεί εν τέλει με 11-8.

Ο Έλληνας άσος αποκλείστηκε με το κεφάλι ψηλά, πάντως, στην έκτη του παρουσία σε Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες.
