Πρεμιέρα «με το δεξί» για την Σάκκαρη

Ιδανική πρεμιέρα πραγματοποίησε η Μαρία Σάκκαρη στο χώμα και στο τουρνουά WTA 500 του Τσάρλεστον (ΗΠΑ). 

Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια επικράτησε άνετα με 6-3, 6-3 της Βουλγάρας, Βικτορίγια Τόμοβα (Νο 74 στον κόσμο) και πήρε το «εισιτήριο» για τη φάση των «16» του αμερικανικού τουρνουά.

Η αποψινή ήταν η τρίτη νίκη της Σάκκαρη επί της Τόμοβα στις τέσσερις φορές που έχει συναντηθεί με την Βουλγάρα στα κορτ. Η ηττημένη είχε επικρατήσει στο πρώτο μεταξύ τους ματς το 2016, αλλά από τότε η Σάκκαρη μετράει μόνο νίκες (στο Wimbledon του 2022, ένα χρόνο μετά στο United Cup και απόψε στο Τσάρλεστον).   

Η αντίπαλος της Σάκκαρη στην επόμενη φάση (4/4) θα προκύψει αύριο (3/4) από τη νικήτρια του ζευγαριού Λέσια Τσουρένκο-Άστρα Σάρμα.
