Ήττα στο μικτό διπλό και αποκλεισμός για την εθνική από τη Γερμανία

Στα προημιτελικά σταμάτησε η πορεία της εθνικής ομάδας τένις στο United Cup, στο Σίδνεϊ.

Στον κρίσιμο αγώνα του μικτού διπλού με τη Γερμανία, η Μαρία Σάκκαρη και ο Πέτρος Τσιτσιπάς (προτιμήθηκε να παίξει αυτός αντί του αδελφού του, που λίγο νωρίτερα είχε αγωνιστεί στο απλό με τον Ζβέρεφ) ηττήθηκαν από τον Αλεξάντερ Ζβέρεφ και την Λάουρα Ζίγκεμουντ 6-3, 6-3 κι έτσι η Γερμανία έκανε το 2-1 και πήρε την πρόκριση για την τετράδα, όπου θα αντιμετωπίσει αύριο (6/1) την Αυστραλία. Το ελληνικό δίδυμο προσπάθησε, αλλά η εξαιρετική αγωνιστική κατάσταση του Ζβέρεφ, που είχε φανεί και στον αγώνα του με τον Στέφανο Τσιτσιπά, δεν άφησε πολλά περιθώρια διεκδίκησης της νίκης.
