Ανατροπή και μεγάλη πρόκριση του Σαποβάλοφ επί του «λαβωμένου» Ναδάλ

Ο τραυματισμός του Ράφαελ Ναδάλ στη διάρκεια του τελευταίου αγώνα των «16» του Internazionali BNL D’Italia έδωσε τη δυνατότητα στον Ντένις Σαποβάλοφ να σημειώσει μία από τις μεγαλύτερες νίκες στην καριέρα του και με ανατροπή να προκριθεί πανηγυρικά στους προημιτελικούς του Masters της Ρώμης.

 

Ο Ισπανός ξεκίνησε άκρως εμφατικά το ματς και με 6-1 πήρε το πρώτο σετ, δείχνοντας αποφασισμένος να «καθαρίσει» το συντομότερο με την πρόκριση. Στη συνέχεια, όμως, ένιωσε ενοχλήσεις στο πόδι του, γεγονός που εκμεταλλεύτηκε ο Καναδός και με 7-5, 6-2 έφερε τα πάνω κάτω και πήρε τη νίκη.

 

Μετά από 2 ώρες και 39 λεπτά αγώνα ο Σαποβάλοφ πήρε το τελευταίο «εισιτήριο» για τους «8», δίνοντας ραντεβού με το νο5 του ταμπλό, Κάσπερ Ρουντ. Ο τελευταίος επικράτησε με «καθαρό» 2-0 (6-3, 6-4) του Αμερικανού, Τζένσον Μπρούκσμπι.

 

Έτσι οι προημιτελικοί του Internazionali BNL D’Italia διαμορφώθηκαν ως εξής:
