Ξεκόλλησε από την τελευταία θέση η Σαουθάμπτον

Σημαντική νίκη στην προσπάθεια που κάνει να παραμείνει στην κατηγορία πήρε η Σαουθάμπτον που επικράτησε με 1-0 της Λέστερ στο «Σαιντ Μαίρυς».

Οι γηπεδούχοι ξεκίνησαν θετικά τον αγώνα, ασκώντας πίεση στους αντιπάλους, με αποτέλεσμα να κερδίσουν ένα πέναλτι στο 32'. Ο Βαρντ-Πράους ανέλαβε την ευθύνη να το εκτελέσει, αλλά ο Γουόρντ σταμάτησε την προσπάθεια του. Οι «Άγιοι», όμως, δεν αποθαρρύνθηκαν και τρία λεπτά μετά βρήκαν το γκολ, με τον Αλκαράζ να φεύγει στην πλάτη της άμυνας των «αλεπούδων» και να πλασάρει σωστά για το 1-0.

Εντελώς διαφορετική η εικόνα του παιχνιδιού στο δεύτερο μέρος, με την Λέστερ να έχει την συντριπτική πλειονότητα της κατοχής, αλλά να μην μπορεί να την μετουσιώσει σε γκολ. Η μόνη ευκαιρία στο στόχο από τις δύο ομάδες ήταν αυτή του Βαρντ-Πράους στο 48'.

Η Σαουθάμπτον πλέον ισοβαθμεί με τις Έβερτον και Μπόρνμουθ στην ζώνη του υποβιβασμού, ενώ η διαφορά της από την 15η Λέστερ είναι μόλις τρεις πόντοι.
