Ο Χούρκατς στέρησε το νο1 από τον Μεντβέντεφ

Ο Ντανιίλ Μεντβέντεφ, νούμερο 2 του κόσμου, αποκλείστηκε στα προημιτελικά του Masters 1000 στο Μαϊάμι, χάνοντας στα δύο σετ (7-6/7, 6-3) από τον Πολωνό Χούμπερτ Χούρκατς, νούμερο 10 στην κατάταξη της ATP και κάτοχο του τίτλου στο τουρνουά της Φλόριντα.

 

Κατά συνέπεια ο Ρώσος πρωταθλητής έχασε την ευκαιρία να επιστρέψει στην κορυφή του ranking από την προσεχή Δευτέρα, προς μεγάλη τέρψη του Νόβακ Τζόκοβιτς που παραμένει πρώτος.

 

Για να υπερκεράσει τον «Νόλε», ο Μεντβέντεφ θα έπρεπε να φτάσει τουλάχιστον ως τα ημιτελικά της διοργάνωσης. Ο Χούρκατς όμως, είχε άλλη άποψη, έπιασε μεγάλη απόδοση και δεν έδωσε ούτε σετ στον αντίπαλό του.

 

Ο Πολωνός προκρίθηκε λοιπόν στα ημιτελικά και απέχει δύο νίκες από τον back to back τρόπαιό του στο τουρνουά της Φλόριντα. Αντίπαλός του στους «τέσσερις» θα είναι ο νικητής του αγώνα Κάρλος Αλκαράθ Γκάρφια-Μιομίρ Κετσμάνοβιτς.
