Ήττα σοκ για την Σάκκαρη από την Νιμάιερ

Πολύ σύντομο αποδείχθηκε το ταξίδι της Μαρίας Σάκκαρη στο τουρνουά Μπαντ Χόμπουργκ της Γερμανίας, με την Ελληνίδα τενίστρια να γνωρίζει πρόωρο αποκλεισμό από τον πρώτο γύρο του WTA 500, χάνοντας με 2-1 σετ (2-6, 6-2, 7-6) από το Νο.96 της παγκόσμιας κατάταξης, Γιούλε Νιμαϊερ.

Παρά το εντυπωσιακό του ξεκίνημα κατακτώντας το πρώτο σετ με 6-2, το Νο.9 του κόσμου δεν μπόρεσε να συνεχίσει στον ίδιο ρυθμό, γνωρίζοντας την έκπληξη από τη Γερμανίδα αντίπαλό της.

Αυτή ήταν η τέταρτη σερί ήττα της Σάκκαρη και δεύτερη διαδοχική στο χορτάρι, με την Ελληνίδα να μοιάζει πως περνάει μια περίοδο ντεφορμαρίσματος, λίγες εβδομάδες πριν την έναρξη του Grand Slam του Γουίμπλετον.
