Ήττα-αποκλεισμός της Σάκκαρη

Μετά από ένα πραγματικό θρίλερ που κρίθηκε στις λεπτομέρειες, η Μαρία Σάκκαρη «λύγισε» από την Τζάσμιν Παολίνι στον 2ο γύρο του Σινσινάτι. Χρειάστηκαν 2 ώρες και 13 λεπτά για να ηττηθεί η Ελληνίδα πρωταθλήτρια με 2-0, παρότι τα έδωσε όλα για να κάνει δύο μεγάλες ανατροπές, μία σε κάθε σετ.

 

Τα καθορισρτικά λάθη της Σάκκαρη έδωσαν τη δυνατότητα στην Παολίνι να πάρει τη νίκη με 7-6(2), 7-6(5) και ταυτόχρονα τη ρεβάνς για την ήττα της στη Μαδρίτη από την Σάκκαρη και το «εισιτήριο» για τον τρίτο γύρο του τουρνουά. 

 

Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια επέστρεψε από το 1-5 στο 1ο σετ, ισοφαρίζοντας σε 5-5 για να το χάσει στο tie-break, ενώ στο 2ο σετ κατάφερε να σβήσει 5 match-points της Παολίνι κάνοντας το 0/6, 5/6 και μάλιστα έχοντας τις μπάλες στα χέρια για να ισοφαρίσει, όμως ένα διπλό λάθος σφράγισε την πρόκριση για την Ιταλίδα. 

 

Αυτή ήταν η 8η ήττα σε 9 ματς φέτος κόντρα σε παίκτριες του Top-10 για τη Μαρία Σάκκαρη, αλλά και η 15η στα τελευταία 17(!) από το τουρνουά του Τόκιο το 2023.

 

Η Παολίνι θα βρει απέναντί της στη συνέχεια την Αμερικανίδα Άσλιν Κρούγκερ που κέρδισε νωρίτερα την Αναστασία Σεβάστοβα με 7-6(2), 7-6(5).

 

Επόμενος σταθμός για τη Σάκκαρη θα είναι το 500άρι τουρνουά του Μοντερέι (16-23/8) στο τελευταίο της τεστ πριν από το US Open.
