Αποκλεισμός για τη Σάκκαρη από την Κόστιουκ

Ολοκληρώθηκε το όμορφο ταξίδι της Μαρίας Σάκκαρη στους Ολυμπιακούς αγώνες του Παρισιού. Η Ελληνίδα τενίστρια γνώρισε την ήττα 2-1 σετ από την Μάρτα Κόστιουκ μετά από μια μεγάλη μάχη στο δεύτερο και στο τρίτο και τελευταίο σετ με αποτέλεσμα να αποκλειστεί από τη συνέχεια. Η Μαρία Σάκκαρη πήρε το πρώτο σετ, παρά το γεγονός ότι η Ουκρανή είχε προηγηθεί με τρία game, αλλά αντέδρασε και τελικά πήρε το σετ μέσα σε 39 λεπτά. Το δεύτερο κατέληξε στην Κόστιουκ με 7-6 (7-5) σε μία ώρα και δέκα λεπτά, όπως και το τρίτο σετ με 6-4 και πάλι σε ένα σετ που είχε διάρκεια μία ώρα.
