Προκρίθηκε στον 2ο γύρο η Σάκκαρη

Την συνέχεια της στο Charleston Open, πανηγύρισε η Μαρία Σάκκαρη. Η κορυφαία Ελληνίδα τενίστρια νίκησε 2-0 σετ (6-3, 6-2) την 20χρονη Καναδή και Νο126 του κόσμου, Μαρίνα Στάκουσιτς και πήρε την πρόκριση για τον δεύτερο γύρο (φάση των «32»), όπου θα αντιμετωπίσει αύριο (2/4) την Κινέζα και «χρυσή» Ολυμπιονίκη του Παρισιού, Κινγουέν Ζενγκ. 

 

Η Σάκκαρη προηγήθηκε με το... καλησπέρα με 3-0, αλλά τα λάθη επέτρεψαν στην Στάκουσιτς να επιστρέψει στη διεκδίκηση της νίκης, πριν η Ελληνίδα πατήσει και πάλι γκάζι και γράψει το 6-3 και το 1-0 στα σετ. 

 

Στο δεύτερο και μετά την ισοφάριση σε 1-1 στα games από την Καναδή, η Σάκκαρη ανέβασε και πάλι στροφές, παίρνοντας προβάδισμα και φτάνοντας με άνεση στο 6-2, πανηγυρίζοντας την πρόκριση μετά από μια ώρα και 20 λεπτά
