Στην 9η θέση η Στεφανίδη με άλμα στα 4,70 μ.

 

Στην 9η θέση του τελικού του άλματος επί κοντώ στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Παρισιού η Κατερίνα Στεφανίδη. Στην τρίτη συνεχόμενη συμμετοχή της σε τελικό της κορυφαίας διοργάνωσης, η χρυσή Ολυμπιονίκης το 2016 στο Ρίο πέρασε με επιτυχία 4.40μ, 4.60μ και 4.70μ., αλλά έκανε τρία άκυρα άλματα στα 4.80μ, χάνοντας την ευκαιρία να διεκδικήσει τη δεύτερη παρουσία της σε Ολυμπιακό βάθρο.

Η Κατερίνα δεν έκανε το ιδανικό ξεκίνημα στον τελικό, αφού χρειάστηκε δεύτερη προσπάθεια για να περάσει από το πρώτο ύψος (4.40μ.), το οποίο τελικά κατάφεραν να ξεπεράσουν και οι 19 φιναλίστ, με την ΜακΚάρτνεϊ να μην επιχειρεί άλμα.

Η συνέχεια ήταν εξαιρετική για την Ελληνίδα Πρωταθλήτρια, που πέρασε και τα 4,60 και 4,70 με την πρώτη της προσπάθεια. Όμως στο 4,80 μ. δεν τα κατάφερε
